Chairman's Christmas Message
Dear Grasshoppers' Members, Volunteers and Staff Seasons’ Greetings to everyone who is a part of the great Grasshopper Community! It’s hard to believe we have reached the half way mark in our season and deservedly everyone can enjoy the break, draw breath, relax, eat, drink and be merry amongst friends and family. We can all also look forward to 2024 and all the activity and excitement the New Year will bring. Reflecting on 2023, it’s been a great year for the Club; on the playing side it’s undoubtedly been one of the most successful with the Senior squad achieving promotion to Thames Regional 2 and after a challenging start now playing some really superb rugby but showing true Grasshopper character by playing with such determination right up to the final whistle, often pipping at the post at the very end of many of their games. It’s a really admirable playing ethic and one which, by the results of all our Teams permeates the whole Club. The Colts and the Juniors are playing impressive rugby and have built excellent reputations for themselves. The rest of the season promises to be as thrilling as the first half. The girls are doing just as well whether it be the thriving netball section or the girls’ rugby section, both so important to the Club’s ethos of sport for all. There are innumerable Volunteers who have contributed to all of this, and their efforts are no doubt appreciated by everyone associated with the Club - well done to you all! 2023 has been challenging off the field with inflation impacting everyone; the Club has been working really hard to mitigate the impact whilst also seeking ways to improve our economics for example by expanding our social offerings like the Festval of Sport in August, pre-match lunches, the Halloween Party and some great social events in the run up to Christmas. Special thanks to those who have worked so tirelessly to keep the Club thriving as a place to be. And we can of course look forward to many more in 2024 as well as a little further ahead when we go into our 75th Anniversary Year in 2024-25. We have a fantastic staff team at Syon Lane and they work 7 days a week with outside events, hosting schools, providing facilities for other sports clubs, keeping our facilities in impeccable condition and of course being a key part our weekend scene. The work they do is really appreciated so very many thanks on behalf of all our members to all of them. So finally, thanks to all of you for being a part of Grasshoppers and continuing to make us what we are. Seasons’ Greetings to one and all, and we’ll see you in the New Year! Rob Jones Chairman
