Father and Sons take the pitch together

Saturday 14th February 2015 could be remembered for a variety of reasons: Valentines Day or England beating the Italians (47 - 17) in the Six Nations. For two families it will be remembered for the first time father and son took to the pitch together.

Warren Fox and son Harry, and Lewey Hook and son Taz took to the field for Grasshoppers II XV v London Cornish III Choughs. While the final score line might not have gone in Grasshoppers favour (Cornish winning 71 - 0), the two father/son combinations were a great success.

Harry and Taz were making their senior rugby debuts, so not to be outdone and to show how fathers can be supportive to their son's rugby careers, Warren and Lewey decided to support them, on the pitch as team mates.

Warren (44) has been playing for Grasshoppers Vets (once a month) but Lewey Hook (46)  took to the field, for his Grasshoppers debut, having not played rugby for over 20 years.

Warren Fox, gasped after the game: "This was a very proud moment, taking the field with my son, something I thought would never happen as I only put on a pair of rugby boots a few years a go."

Lewey Hook added: "It was a great day today and a bit surreal playing rugby after not playing for 20 years but to play alongside my son in his first senior appearance was a real honour and something I won't forget."

The father/son combination has a long tradition at Grasshoppers and Warren, Harry, Lewey and Taz join the Coakley's, Cunningham's, Orishaguna's, Gilmore's and Reilly's in all playing together. What is even more of a great achievement is all the son's have come up through the ranks of Grasshoppers Juniors to make their senior rugby appearances.
