Grasshoppers 02 Touch win Summer League

Grasshoppers 02 Touch team finished off a three-month season in the Surrey & Middlesex Summer Touch League at London Scottish on Thursday (10th September) night.

The inaugural Surrey and Middlesex Summer Touch League is the first Touch module of its kind to be played between rugby clubs in the area (normally Touch Rugby is played between non-affiliated teams throughout the UK at a central location).

Grasshoppers played home and away fixtures and managed to keep a consistent team playing each week. Training, which is now held on Tuesday nights saw the hard work of bringing together set pieces, moves and game plans onto the pitch week in week out.

Lewey Hook, one of the organisers of Grasshoppers 02 Touch said: "The level of Touch Rugby has progressed massively over this summer and to see some of the younger guys and girls really develop beyond club games gives me a lot of satisfaction, as does growing the game embraced by rugby clubs. I know that the origin of Touch Rugby in New Zealand was to keep contact players fit over the off season, its grey to see all ages of men, women, boys and girls playing the same game has so many other combining factors that do not need explaining."

The final league games were played at London Scottish ahead as part of the RWC 2015 100 days to go Trophy Tour. Grasshoppers played two games, which sealed their league title and were presented the trophy by Ross Peacock, Community Rugby Coach at London Scottish in the presence of the William Webb Ellis Trophy.
