Grasshoppers represented in Middlesex President's Vintage XV

Richard Booth & Juan Murray in action

Italy may not have had a great day at Twickenham on Saturday 14th February, but at it was a different story at Staines RFC, where a team of vintage players from Milan (Bislunghi Milan) took on the Middlesex President's invitational XV of similarly aged players and swept to a beasties vetsresounding 19 - 40 victory.

Three Grasshoppers (all over the age of 45), donned the blue and white hoops of Middlesex to play for the President's Vintage XV - Richard Booth, Juan Murray and Warren Milne. Unfortunately, age and fitness were not on the Grasshoppers or Middlesex side as the Italians had a bit more spring in their aged step.

The charity match, played to Golden Oldies rules, was in aid of raising money for the charity "Filippo Cantoni - The smile you'll never forget". The charity was set up in memory of Filippo Cantoni, a young and talented Italian rugby player who died aged 18, following a car crash. The charity provides bursuries for young players. For more information about the charity visit their website.

Congratulations to all involved who raised over £2,000 for the charity. For more information visit Middlesex Rugby. See the official pictures on Flickr.
