Seasons Greetings

25th December 2020

Seasons Greetings
As this extremely unprecedented and testing year draws to a close I just wanted to say a big thank you for your continued flexibility and valued contribution towards the club.

2020 , particularly since March, has been like no other in our lifetime and nobody could have predicted the full impact that the pandemic has had upon all our lives. The way we have had to operate during the times when we were permitted to open undoubtedly put extra pressure on all of us. The flexibility and good humour shown by you all, whether as a member of staff, netball or rugby player, coach, parent or volunteer has been outstanding.

There is undoubtedly light at the end of the tunnel in the form of the vaccine roll out, however I think it is clear that we still have a way to go before we are out of the other side and it may be some time before the clubhouse is permitted to open. We will of course look to get our sporting activity across all sections up and running as soon as the rules permit and it is safe to do so. The plan at the moment is to resume Junior and Mini activity on Sunday 10th January 2021.

At the outset of this situation, the aim of the Executive Committee was to preserve the long term future of the club whilst at the same time doing everything possible to protect the livelihood of our valued staff. We are fortunate that whilst the clubhouse has largely been closed or operating in a restricted way, we have other income streams through local schools who use our facilities for their PE lessons on a commercial basis and the corporate sponsorship with Sky (who have continued their financial contribution despite not using the car park or clubhouse). This, together with the Government Furlough scheme for our staff, has meant that we have been able to keep the club on a financially secure footing in the short, medium and long term.

A number of members have mentioned paying subscriptions and fundraising to help the club. This has been kept under continual review by the Executive Committee and the feeling at this point is that we should not seek to collect subscription or make any fundraising appeal. This is based on the fact that our members have clearly not had any kind of season thus far and it remains to be seen what the remainder of the season will look like across all of the sporting sections. We are also acutely aware that many members have been severely financially impacted by the pandemic in terms of reduced income or redundancy.

It is hugely appreciated that members are thinking about how they can assist and people are of course free to make any contribution but the reality is that collecting subscriptions or fundraising is not something that is required given the financial situation outlined above.

I know that many of us will not have the Christmas we had hoped for but I want to take this opportunity , on behalf of the Executive Committee, to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Christmas and hereâ•˙s to a vastly improved 2021!

Keep safe

Kindest regards
