Jack 'Wacker' Neate - RIP

Jack "Wacker” Neate

It is with deep regret that we heard on Monday this week of the sad death of one of Grasshopper’s great characters: Jack "Wacker” Neate. Jack passed away on Monday 18th January at the age of 84 after a fall at his home in Chiswick and our sympathies are with his children, Maggie, Carole, Sandra, Billy and Jimmy along with his eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jack is now reunited with wife Wynn, who died some years ago.

We will all have our own memories of Jack, many of which will emanate from the many Easter Tours he attended. He joined Grasshoppers in the mid 1950’s and was a demon second row and could always be seen at the bar with a pint, king Edward cigar, something that fell off his lorry, and most importantly, a smile with a funny story. Jack held many roles in the Club including captaining various sides, Social Secretary and in 1987 he was a key figure in us succeeding at MacFarlane Lane when he took on the role of Clubhouse Manager where he performed brilliantly and was deservedly awarded Clubman of the Year in 1987/88. Jack was also a recipient of an Honorary Life Vice Presidency and an Honours Tie.

Jack’s family would love to see as many Grasshoppers as possible to help celebrate his rich life at 1pm on Saturday 30thJanuary, at the Mortlake Crematorium, Chiswick.
