Jim O'Neil

20th February 2016

Jim O'Neil
It is with great sadness that we heard on Friday 19th February of the sad passing of 'Big Jim' O'Neil in his 69th year.

Jim had been unwell recently and had been to intensive care on five occasions but eventually his heart gave up but after a five day fight that epitomised Jim as a one of our greatest ever battlers! Our thoughts go out to his daughter, Jenifer and his six grandchildren as this sad time.

Jim joined Grasshoppers in the late sixties as part of Dave Delderfield's judo contingent from Acton. Jim's outstanding strength and athleticism saw him develop as a second row and was a first team regular over many years and for many Captains and was known for his famous catch phrase 'Ooojie Moojie'.

There will be a fitting minutes silence before the first team game against Hitchin on Saturday 20th February, which we hope to see his daughter, Jenifer.

Jim can be seen at his peak in the attached photo taken at Pyrene's in the mid 70's, third from the right at the back as always next to his mentor, Dave Delderfield.

Jim's funeral details will be communicated as soon as they have been confirmed.
