Mike Reilly's charity tandem bike ride for Goalball UK
Grasshoppers stalwart, Mike Reilly and Chief Executive of Goalball UK will be participating in the Goalball UK's Coast to Coast cycle challenge. The team of 15 visually impaired Goalball players and their guides will cycle 170 miles from Morecambe in Lancashire to Bridlington in East Yorkshire from Monday 3rd August to Thursday 6th August.

The money raised will be invested into grassroots Goalball, to grow and nurture this exciting and fast paced 3 a-side Paralympic team sport of attack an defence played by blind and partially signed people.

Talking about the challenge, Reilly said: "The 170 mile Coast to Coast tandem bike ride, accompanied by a Goalball player riding shotgun is going to be a tough challenge.....not least for someone of my 'maturity' with little cycling experience. The old rugby knocks and injuries could well raise their heads again!"

"I'm truly inspired what Goalball players can achieve and indeed what this unique sport can deliver for those who have been unfortunate enough to be born without sight or lose it at some point. We want to expand Goalball throughout the UK and your donation will help us to introduce more individuals to the sport, help create more clubs geographically throughout the country, improve the performances of our Great Britain Men's and Women's teams, and generally increase overall participation."

Mike will be accompanying Louise Simpson. Louise has been playing Goalball since 1995 and was the youngest member of the GB Women's squad at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games and the oldest member at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Mike made one last comment before cycling off into the distance, although his stabilisers might have to be taken off before the challenge: "please 'get off your bike' and donate now at my JustGiving page. It will make a real difference to the lives of so many."
