Minis
Our Mini section started in 2003 and is the start of the Grasshoppers rugby journey, where we teach children about teamwork, the virtues of hard work, dedication and determination. Most importantly we teach them to enjoy playing so they have a positive experience of rugby.
Our teams range from our Knee Highs (4+), U7s, U8s, U9s, U10s, and U11s and play in games, triangulars and festivals throughout the season. Our Mini's train and play on Sunday mornings from 9.30am until 11am.
All our Mini coaches, managers and volunteers are DBS checked and our coaches have a minimum Rugby Ready/Level 1 coaching qualification as well as having referee experience. The Club adheres to the RFU rules on Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults. All members of the Mini section abide by the Club's Code of Conduct.
Grasshoppers are participating in the RFU Old Mutual Wealth Kids First Rugby, a new approach to the way the game is played at rugby clubs across England which puts the child at the centre, moving on at the childs own pace and development so that more children experience success.
All children playing rugby will require rugby boots, socks, black shorts and Grasshoppers rugby shirt, mouth guard and water bottle. All these are available from the Club shop. Boots with safety studs should be certified to World Rugby regulations although trainers or moulded boots may be acceptable in warmer/dryer weather. During the winter months, players are encouraged to wear layers, so they can discard items as they warm up. All players should bring with them a clean set of clothes to change into after training or matches before entering the clubhouse.
