Match Report for Saturday 17th August Grasshoppers 20 Old Emanuel 25

Seniors: First XV: 17th August 2019

Grasshoppers 20 25 Old Emmanuel
welcomed Old Emanuel who play in London SW2 out of New Malden, hoping to maintain their journey into the 2019/20 season in London NW2. This being their second season at their new home at Syon Lane, Osterley, G’s are looking to hit the ground running when they play Hammersmith & Fulham away on 14th September. With the chance to blood new players G’s, fielded two new half backs in the guise of Josh Emery at 9 and Jason Lee at 10. G’s kicked off from the School end in what was a try only trial played over three twenty minute sessions and conceded almost straight from the kick-off with a try from the visitors. G’s though got themselves back into the game as their forwards sustained some good possession which allowed, full back, Louis Graham the room to score to draw the game level. However, just before the end of the first session the visitors got their second try to put the score at 5-10. The second session whilst being end to end saw a try a piece with Louis Graham getting a second try with the visitors keeping one score ahead. However, whilst both sides were ring rusty both displayed some stoic defence and were prepared to throw the ball about. The third and final session as once again a tight affair and saw prop, Will Phillip pop over for a try set up by fellow prop Matt Coakley to level the scores at 15-15 but then G’s took their foot off gas which allowed Old Emanuel to score two more tries to widen the gap to two scores but G’s had the last word scrum half, Josh Emery slipped in for a try to make the final score 20-15. All in all a good test for G’s who continue their per-season preparation on Wednesday 21st August when they entertain London Cornish 8pm kick off.
