Match Report: Grasshoppers v London Cornish

Seniors: First XV: 21st August 2019

Grasshoppers welcomed level 6, London Cornish on what was the third trial game and the second against opposition from the one level up to get themselves game ready for 14th September. This trial game was played over 4 x 20 minute sessions, the first of which finished 12-12 after tries from new number 6 Dejie bludgeoning his way through from 5 metres which was converted by stand-off, Jason Lee. G’s second try saw centre, Sean Connor evade the visitors defence to score in the corner which went unconverted and the visitors matched G’s with 2 tries and 1 conversion. The second session was equally tight as the heavier visitor’s pack took control at the set piece but with G’s looking the stronger in lose play. It was G’s scrum half, Jack Jones who broke the deadlock with a well taken unconverted try but back came the visitors with a converted try to retake the lead 17-19. And went further ahead 17-26 with a another converted try. G’s kept themselves in the game in the third session with a try from number eight, Louis Brown with a well taken interception and with the conversion from replacement stand-off, Matt Harper G’s saw themselves within two points. However, the visitors had the last word in this session with a well taken converted try to finish the 24-33. Whilst G’s had some good passages of play in the final session it was the visitors who consolidated their position with two converted tries to make the final score 24-47 but with G’s taking many positives from the game.


Grasshoppers Rugby is always recruiting players of all standards to join our great club. We boast fabulous facilities consisting of 3 pitches (all floodlit). The main pitch is an AGP 3G surface which is used for training and league fixtures.

We boast an excellent on site purpose built gym for the use of all our players.

We have a great coaching team, with Clive See as Head Coach ably assisted by Munster man Asst Head & Defence Coach, Jerry Hedigan and Backs Coach Sean Connor, all with a wealth of coaching experience. We are also fortunate to have Mike Cudmore assisting as a Forwards specialist Coach.

In addition, and ongoing throughout the season, we have a specialist Rugby Strength & Conditioning Coach, Stuart Aimer, vastly experienced working at International 7s level.
