Match Report: Fullerians v Grasshoppers

Seniors: First XV: 19th October 2019

Fullerians 39 21 Grasshoppers
Fullerians 39 Grasshoppers 21 "Nothing for Hoppers at Fullers” Grasshoppers travelled to Watford to play Fullerians who were relegated last season hoping to retain third spot in the league. Although G’s fell behind from a Fullers penalty on one minute they came back and led 3-14 after twenty minutes through a penalty try and a well taken try from hooker and skipper, Jack Walkden and a conversion from stand-off Billy-Graham Park. However, with both sides showing defensive frailties it look to be turning into a high scoring game for both sides with Fullers getting a converted try to make the score 10-14 shortly followed by G’s number eight, Louis Brown going in for a try and with the conversion from Billy-Graham Park, to take the score to 10-21. Fullers though had the last word in the half with a second converted try to take the half time score to 17-21. The anticipation was high for both sides for the second half but it turned out to be a difficult one for G’s as Fullers pulled to within one point with a penalty highlighting their penalty count at around twenty for the game. Combined with the penalty count Fullers took the game to G’s and took the lead with a second penalty try of the game to make the score 27-21 and whilst G’s pressed the game, they found it hard to sustain any momentum. And so G’s saw their losing bonus point slip away with Fullers converted try and did put for a fourth try but it wasn’t going to be G’s day as Fullers finished the game with an unconverted try to make the final score 39-21. G’s are at home to Datchworth next Saturday 3pm kick off.
