Hoppers disappoint at in-form Letchworth

Letchworth kicked-off the match and were quickly in Gs 22, and moving the ball wide through their backs scored a converted try in the corner after 2 minutes. From the restart Letchworth returned the ball into Gs half with George Stanton gathering and kicking the ball over the advancing defence to field the kick and run in for a try which went unconverted after 3 minutes. From the restart Gs conceded a scrum and Letchworth applied the pressure in Gs 22, which resulted in a Letchworth try – unconverted after 8 minutes to lead 12-5. From the restart Gs applied their own pressure and from a scrum Louis Brown picked up from the back and broke down the blind side making good yardage before popping the ball inside to Blaise Salle who ran in a try under the posts, converted by Jason Lee to level the score at 12-12 after 11 minutes. From the restart Letchworth moved into Gs 22, and from a line-out again moved the ball wide to score a try in the corner – unconverted after 15 minutes. Undeterred Gs were soon back on the score board with a clever move at the front of a line-out that saw hooker Matt Coakley run in a try – unconverted to level the score at 17-17 after 28 minutes, but Letchworth weren’t to be denied and ran in 2 further converted tries to end a hectic first half Leading 31-17. Gs started the second half on the front foot and were soon back on the score board when Jason Lee added a penalty after 43 minutes. Following a sustained period of Letchworth pressure they ran in a further converted try after 52 minutes to extend their lead to 38-20 Determined to take something out of the game Gs pressed forward and winger Mark Cunningham sprinted through a gap to score Gs 4th bonus point try converted by Jason Lee after 70 minutes to bring the score to 38-27 Letchworth however had the final say with another converted try in the final minute to close the game 45-27 at the final whistle.

Recruitment

Grasshoppers Rugby is always recruiting players of all standards to join our great club. We boast fabulous facilities consisting of 3 pitches (all floodlit). The main pitch is an AGP 3G surface which is used for training and league fixtures.

We boast an excellent on site purpose built gym for the use of all our players.


We have a great coaching team, with Clive See as Head Coach ably assisted by Munster man Asst Head & Defence Coach, Jerry Hedigan and Backs Coach Sean Connor, all with a wealth of coaching experience. We are also fortunate to have Mike Cudmore assisting as a Forwards specialist Coach.

In addition, and ongoing throughout the season, we have a specialist Rugby Strength & Conditioning Coach, Stuart Aimer, vastly experienced working at International 7s level.
