What Did Coach Clive Say?

Seniors: First XV: 25th January 2020

Luton 10 12 Grasshoppers
Luton kicked off the match playing into a strong wind, and were soon in Gs 22, and from a penalty which was duly kicked took the lead 3-0 after 4 minutes. Gs forwards began to get into the game forcing Luton back, play remained even being played mainly between the 22s. Luton upped the pressure and scored a try – converted after 20 minutes to increase their lead to 10-0. From the restart Gs recovered the ball and took play into Luton’s 22, keeping them pinned back, but Luton worked their way out and play remained at halfway with neither team being able to put many phases together, continuing this way until halftime was reached with the score 10-0 in Luton’s favour. With Coach Clive See’s halftime talk still ringing in their ears Gs kicked off and were soon in Luton’s 22 seeing Rob Coakley turn the ball over for Gs possession and pressing Luton’s line, resulting in a try for James Kent – converted by Jason Lee after 42 minutes to reduce the deficit to 10-7. From the restart Gs kept play in Luton’s, half pinning them their 22, but Luton defended well keeping Gs at bay, Gs kept working hard and eventually their pressure told when Aaron Sheehan powered over for a try – unconverted to take the lead 10-12, after 65 minutes. Gs were now on the front foot, again pinning Luton in their 22, but Luton broke out taking play up to halfway, and with the match moving into the final 5 minutes Luton pushed forward in to Gs 22, it was now Gs turn to mount a stern defence and from the final play of the game, a scrum in Gs 22 in front of the posts they held their nerve for the ball to go back to Jason Lee to kick to touch and seal the win 10-12.
