Match Report for Saturday 11th April London Irish Wild Geese 44 Grasshoppers 31 “Another High Scoring Thriller for Hoppers”
11th April 2026

Grasshoppers travelled to Hazelwood to play London Irish Wild Geese for this last game of the 2025-26 season, knowing that their fourth year at level 6 for next season was secure, thanks to Josh Harpers bonus point try, in the last play of their previous game against Harpenden. So G’s kicked off with a much-changed side, once again looking to their talented and improving Colts. The home side started the better with plenty of pressure in the G’s 22 but it took them twenty five minutes to break the deadlock with an unconverted try to make it 5-0. G’s though, came back straight away through prop, Aaron Sheehan with a well taken try and took the lead 5-7 through the conversion from stand-off, Charlie Lecuyer. Then the home side scored two tries and a conversion before half time to make the score at the break 17-7. G’s started the second half well with a solo effort try from full-back, Chris Brown, converted by Charlie Lecuyer to narrow the score to 17-14. This was shortly followed by a third try from the home side which when converted widened the gap to 24-14. G’s though, struck back again with a try from winger, Alex Stone and a conversion from Charlie Lecuyer to make it 24-21. It was at this stage that G’s let the game slip away as the home side scored three quick unconverted tries to open the gap to 39-21 but back came G’s with two unconverted tries from flanker, Deji Olajide (which gave G’s the fourth try bonus point) and second row, James Kent 39-31 with the home side having the last say with an unconverted try to make the final score 44-31. And as the final whistle blew on what had been a long and difficult season for G’s they could reflect gaining 48 league points from eight wins and a draw scoring 621 points and start planning straight away for their fourth season at level 6. G’s second team have a merit table play off next week at home to London Japanese 2.30 kick off. G’s Women play their last game of the season at home to Ealing Women on Sunday 26th April, having won their league and all their games so far.
