AGM Announcement

1st May 2026

For the first time in 34 years, we have two candidates standing for the role of Chair. This is a strong sign of engagement in the club, but it has also brought understandable questions about the AGM process and voting eligibility into focus.

Under our current constitution, voting rights are limited to paid-up Senior Rugby Men’s and Women’s members, along with Honorary Life Members. While this has served the club historically, it no longer reflects who we are today. Grasshoppers has evolved into a much broader club, with a long established Netball section and a thriving Minis and Juniors community alongside Senior Rugby. It is essential that our governance now reflects this reality.

Having worked hard to secure the club’s financial position, we are now in a position to take an important next step—ensuring that all adult members have a voice in shaping the club’s future.

Following legal advice, the Board has therefore taken the decision to postpone the AGM until Thursday 18th June. This will allow us to present a constitutional amendment to extend voting rights to all paid adult members across every section of the club.

At the rescheduled AGM, the first item of business will be to vote on this amendment. Under the current rules, only Senior Rugby Men’s and Women’s members and Honorary Life Members can vote on this change.

We are asking those eligible members to support this amendment.

Doing so will ensure that the election of Chair is decided in a way that reflects the full breadth of our club. More importantly, it will mark a clear step towards a more inclusive, representative, and united Grasshoppers.

This is a straightforward but significant change, and one that we believe is both fair and necessary for the club’s future.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any member of the Board.

 Kind regards,

 Rob Jones
