Message from Clive See, Chief Coach
25th September 2026
As the season finally gets underway this Saturday (Sept 26) as Grasshoppers step into unknown territory once again as having many new players has had its challenges
We begin their first Regional Two Thames campaign this Saturday with a trip to Harpenden (away)
It’s the tough start for Grasshoppers but a challenge we will face head on.
We have stressed the importance of managing expectations this time no different from past seasons and it’s no secret we’ve enjoyed three hugely successful three seasons by staying in level 6 rugby especially with our player resources being tested every season
We have stressed the importance of managing expectations this time no different from past seasons and it’s no secret we’ve enjoyed three hugely successful three seasons by staying in level 6 rugby especially with our player resources being tested every season
But every club eventually reaches a ceiling and we are no different.
This season could well be our ceiling - who knows?
It will certainly be our most challenging season by a country mile because there are quality sides in Regional Two Thames. who have been at this level for a sustained period and have better player availability
We’ve got to raise our own standards to reach their level.
This is not me being overly cautious, I’m just realistic, this season is all about consolidation, nothing else. If we can secure a top half finish, that would be a successful campaign.
We have a young side, but that can be a good thing because the youngsters play with no fear and have no baggage attached.
Our first challenge is to demonstrate we can compete and stay at this level, that’s all I’m interested in. Then let’s see where we are at Xmas
The average age in the squad is around 24, but they’ve already played a lot of senior rugby which will help this season.
We've created a really strong team spirit and work ethic. It’s exciting to work with a group like this and see how far we can go.
The higher up the league pyramid you go, the greater the strain on playing resources and this season will be no different .
We have Rohan serving his 2nd year as captain and he's has a player group around that will only strengthen the club and bring some security to the playing side as we have lost many senior players through retirement or injuries.
We will need support and patience from everyone involved in the club this season and let's see where we go from there.
Appreciate all the support so far the club is definitely in a better place through being a one club mentality .
Cheers
Clive
