It is with great sadness that we heard of the sad passing of Roy Hopkins on 26th February with liver cancer at the age of 93. Roy was a truly great Grasshopper. Roy joined Grasshoppers in 1951 and played in the backs, mainly at stand-off. Roy’s playing career was cut short due to injury but he did captain the Club in season 1953/54. Roy took up refereeing along with his brother Dick, but threw himself into Committee work and was acknowledged as probably our best ever Treasurer where he had two stints in the 1970’s and 1980’s when he instigated the "100 Club†and then after we’d moved to MacFarlane Lane, in the 1990’s when his incisive knowledge kept our finances on the straight and narrow.
Roy was a great friend as well as a great Grasshopper and will be sorely missed and our condolences go out to his wife Rosemary at this sad time.
