 Steve Curran 1955 - 2024

It is with great sadness that we hear of the sad passing of Steve Curran at 69 after a fight against cancer. Steve, a great friend of Grasshoppers was Leader of the London Borough of Hounslow from 2014 to 2022 and instrumental in our move to Syon Lane from Macfarlane Lane. Steve’s vision was to create two senior schools, resulting in Grasshoppers moving into a fantastic £11m facility in 2018. During negotiations Steve used all of his political and personal skills and fully deserved being made an Honorary Life Member of the Club in 2023.

Steve was also recognised for his work in Local Government by being awarded an MBE by the King in 2023, receiving it from the Princess Royal on 27thSeptember last year. Steve has also been made an Honorary Alderman of the London Borough of Hounslow.

"I liked Steve from minute one. He was truly professional, affable, and clearly a man with a clear focus and vision. It also really helped that he was a rugby person who was empathetic and understood our needs and wants. He was a joy to work with…determined, intelligent, and fair. He was sharp with a great sense of humour…a truly great man to have a beer and chat with. He will be greatly missed.”

Past Chairman and Director

"Steve was a true friend of Grasshoppers and on many occasions attended pre-match lunches where, in the relaxed atmosphere of our rugby club, his sense of humour, knowing smile and ability to engage with everyone around him, means he will be remembered very fondly by all those who got to know him and our hearts go out to Sam and the family at this sad time”.
