Grasshoppers Colts met local rivals Ruislip in the first round of the RFU National U18 Cup. Grasshoppers started the match from the railway end with the wind and only 16 players in their match day squad and were soon down 0-10 and with 2 early injuries down to 14 players within the first 20 mins.
Grasshoppers rallied hard and restricted Ruislip to 0-15 at half time with some courageous tackling. Grasshoppers forwards stepped up in the second half and started to put phases together which resulted in winger Henry Burke going over for Grasshoppers first try. This try gave the Colts belief and they then scored another try from Centre Campbell Bright which he converted. At 12-15
Grasshoppers, despite still being down to 14 players, were energised and back on the attack with Fullback Sami Boukrouh scoring to take the lead 17-15
Ruislip then came back and took the lead 17-22
But Grasshoppers weren’t finished and Sami Boukrouh scored again to bring the match back to 22-22 with Ruislip going through to the next round as away team wins if the match is a drawn.
With minutes on the clock Grasshoppers went straight into the Ruislip half searching for the win and with the last play of the day Campbell went over in the right hand corner to seal the victory and put Grasshoppers Colts into the second round of the cup for first time in Hoppers history, where they will play at home to either Ealing or Roslyn Park, date to be notified.
