Its A Good Trip For Hoppers
Seniors: First XV: 11th October 2025
| Oxford Quins II | 29 | 52 | Grasshoppers |
Grasshoppers travelled to rural Oxfordshire for their longest away trip of the season expecting a very competitive game but travelled with a strong squad. So, Oxford kicked off on a murky, albeit dry afternoon and G’s were soon on the ascendency and went ahead after 10 minutes with a well taken try started by prop, Lewis Perkins who broke the gain line, finished by full-back, Chris Brown and converted by centre, Conor Gilmore to make it 0-7, a lot better start than the previous week.
However, this sparked the home team into life as they started to maintain possession and went ahead 10-7 with two unconverted tries. G’s though again found their momentum via flankers, Bade Ashimi and Deji Olajide the former, retaking the lead 10-12 and with the Conor Gilmore conversion, moving it along to 10-14. Then just before half time debut winger, Jack Dyer slipped in for an unconverted try to make the half time score 10-19, the first time this season we’d been ahead at half time.
Although, G’s started the second half well territorially, it was the home side who broke the deadlock with two tries and a conversion to retake the lead 22-19 until Jack Dyer picked up the ball in space out wide and slipped over for his second try to get G’s back in front 22-26 with the Conor Gilmore conversion (game on).
With half an hour to go G’s took the game by the scruff of the neck especially with forward replacements, Andy McGill and Mannix Taylor taking the game to the home side which enable Chris Brown to get his second try to push the score to 22-33 with the Conor Gilmore conversion. G’s then showed some stoic pragmatism to kill the game off by asking Conor Gilmore to add three penalties which he did to move the score to 22-42. G’s last try of the came was also Chris Brown’s hat trick try and with another conversion from Conor Gilmore the score ticked onto an unassailable 22-49.
The home side did rally and got a converted try make it 29-42 but Conor Gilmore had the last kick of the game slotting a fourth penalty to make it 29-52.
Next week G’s are away to Beaconsfield kick off to be advised.
