Another Second Half Problem For Hoppers
Seniors: First XV: 25th October 2025
| Grasshoppers | 31 | 62 | Old Priorians |
Grasshoppers welcomed Old Priorians to Syon Lane on a bright but blowie afternoon hoping to put in an 80-minute performance but due to gaps in the centre, number eight, Louis Brown, was moved to fill the gap. The visitors kicked off from the school end and had G’s under pressure from the kickoff and saw themselves 0-5 down after 5 minutes with an unconverted try. G’s though rallied and took the lead through a well taken lineout with hooker, Jack Walkenden coming up with the ball and the conversion from stand-off, Charlie Lecuyer to make it 7-5.
The visitors retook the lead shortly afterwards with a carbon copy of G’s try to retake the lead 7-12. But almost immediately G’s recaptured the lead thanks to a well taken try from full-back, Chris Brown brilliantly set up by winger, Tom Orishaguna, making his return to the first team after a long injury. And with the Charlie Lecuyer conversion and shortly after a penalty, G’s went ahead 17-12.
However, back came the visitors with two converted tries and then just before half time second-row, James Kent scored the try with Charlie Lecuyer adding the conversion to make the score a nail-biting two point 24-26.
However, 20 minutes into the second half, G’s found themselves 24-40 down thanks to a series of errors, but hope sprang eternally as G’s saw full-back slip in for a try and the Charlie Lecuyer conversion narrowed the gap to nine points and also secured a try bonus point. However, the revival wasn’t to be as a the visitors took control and ran out winners 31-62 thanks to three tries, two conversions and a penalty.
