Hoppers Struggle with Storm Amy in Game of One Half

Grasshoppers welcomed Marlow to the Lane on a blustery October afternoon with both sides on 5 league points. G’s kicked off into a very strong wind from thew School end and found themselves 0-7 down after 2 minutes due to a defensive mix-up. Storm "Amy” continued to hamper G’s who saw themselves 0-26 down after half an hour with three further tries and two conversions.

However, G’s raised their game in the final 10 minutes of the first half and spent time in the visitors 22 and came away with their first try of the game through second-row, Callum McCormack and the difficult conversion from stand-off, Charlie Lecuyer made the half time score 7-26 and given the strength of "Amy” not such an impossible turnaround prospect!

However, the visitors hadn’t read the script and seemed to master the conditions much better than G’s did in the first half and so drew first blood against the run of play with an unconverted try to make it 7-31. G’s though came back with a pushover try from a lineout with hooker, Matt Coakley coming up with the ball and the conversion from Charlie Lecuyer narrowed the gap to 14-31.

G’s though, failed to use "Amy” to any advantage and repeat this and allowed the visitors to add to their tally with an unconverted try to make it 14-36. Full-back, Chris Brown had the final word with a well-taken unconverted try to make the final score 19-36. One positive to take from the game was the debut of prop, Sam Pusey who came on in the second half and put in a solid performance.
