It’s a Sandwich Performance for Hoppers
Seniors: First XV: 8th November 2025
| Teddington | 52 | 34 | Grasshoppers |
Grasshoppers travelled the short distance to play Teddington well placed in the top half of the table. The home side kicked off and found themselves 21-0 ahead with three converted tries within ten minutes. G’s though, eventually got some control of the game and hooker, Matt Coakley came up with the ball from a five-metre lineout that went unconverted to make the score 21-5.
The home side struck back with an unconverted fourth try shortly followed by a glorious try from number eight, Louis Brown which when converted by stand-off Charlie Lecuyer made the half time score a more respectable 26-12.
G’s continued with the middle of this metaphorical sandwich in the second half when their forwards took the game to Teddington like a herd of marauding stags, not an uncommon sight in Bushey Park. This saw G’s take the lead 26-29 thanks to tries from debut prop, Andy McGill, flanker, Deji Olajide plus two conversions and a penalty from Charlie Lecuyer this also secured a fourth try bonus point.
However, the home side retook control and secured the win with four further tries and three conversions but G’s had the last word as prop, Lewis Perkins scored an unconverted try to pop one last piece of filling into the sandwich to make the final score 52-34.
A rest week next week but G’s are back in action on 29th November at home tol Aylesbury 2pm ko.
Grasshoppers 2nds had a good win at home to Hackney 19-7 in what was a friendly. G’s were grateful to Hackney for traveling at short notice as their original merit table fixture against London Japanese was cancelled due to them not being able to raise a side. G’s scorers were Elliot Dufosee, Campbell Bright x 2 and two conversions from Harry Ateugwa. Hackney voted colts, Campbell Bright and James Russell players of the day.
