“Hoppers Let Home Points Slip”
Seniors: First XV: 13th September 2025

Grasshoppers welcomed Thames 2 new boys to the "Lane” hoping to maintain the performance that helped them win their first game of 2025/26 but fell short despite some enterprising rugby.
The side was much unchanged from the previous week’s starting side except for debut stand-off, Finn Skinner. So, G’s kicked off from the railway end and were soon on the attack shocking the visitors with a well taken try from full-back, Chris Brown and with the conversion from skipper and scrumhalf, Rohan Love G’s were 7-0 up.
The visitors responded well and with G’s allowing their stand-off to run unchecked to set up a converted try to make it 7-7. The visitors continued their dominance and were rewarded with a second try from a pushover from a 5 metre line-out to make it 7-12. The first half continued with both sides having chances to score further but both defences held to make the half time score 7-12.
The visitors took control of the game at the start of the second half as they moved the score onto 7-31 thanks to 3 further tries and 2 conversions, despite some stoic defence from G’s.
However, G’s had the better of the last 10 minutes and were rewarded with a try from second row Stalwart, Callum McCormack and with the conversion from Connor Gilmore it made the final score 14-31.
Next week G,s have their first away game of the season at Belsize Park, 2pm kick off.
G’s second XV faired much better in the Middlesex Merit table away to Twickenham with a side full of past colts making their first appearance at senior rugby. They found themselves 7-0 up at half time with some excellent rugby and a try from winger, Cameron Isenberg and the conversion from stand-off Charlie Lecuyer, with the home side only making intermittent journeys into their 22.
The close game continued in the second half with the home side adding 2 converted tries and G’s adding a second try through Sam (the magnet) Pusey which was converted by Charlie Lecuyer who also added a penalty to make the final score 14-17.
