1st XV Win Caps A Great Week For Hoppers
Seniors: First XV: 28th February 2026
| Grasshoppers | 45 | 35 | Teddington |
The 1st XV kicked off from the railway end at 2.15 and got off to a fantastic start, led by past captain and retiree, Josh Harper along with props, Aaron Sheehan and Lewis Perkins. And so as the pressure rose, so did the scoreboard as Aaron Sheehan and second row, Josh Harper power over for tries which were both converted by stand-off, Conor Gilmore as G’s moved into a 14-0 lead. However, as G’s decided to "throw the ball around” G’s gifted the visitors with a converted try to narrow the score to 14-7.
G’s got back into their stride though, which led to second row, James Kent, force his way over for a try which when converted saw the score move to 21-7 but almost straight away, the visitors got a second converted try to make it 21-14. Then just before half time hooker, Jack Walkenden went over for an unconverted try after a 5 metre lineout drive to make the half time score 26-14.
G’s continued as they left off in the first half as winger, Cameron Isenberg finished an expansive backs move started by centre, George Cubit via, full-back, Chris Brown for him to slip in in the corner. It was then Lewis Perkins’ turn to pick up at the ruck and slip in under the posts and with both conversions made by Conor Gilmore, it was 40-14.
However, despite many onlookers thinking we were home and dry others weren’t so confident as they have lived through a lot of nervous second halves only to see the visitors claw the score back to 40-35 as their back let loose with three tries and conversions which gave them two bonus points but they were looking to take all three! And so, it was G’s who had the last say with a well taken second try from Aaron Sheehan to make the final score 45-35 with the visitors having to settle for one point and G’s taking all five!
Next week G’s are away to Aylesbury who have moved the fixture to Oxford Harlequins 3pm ko.
